This was the 1st quilt (but not the last) that I totally took apart and re-did. The Turtles were one side of a 2 sided quilt. I think about 24" wide X 6ft long. Part of an exhibit called 'Under the Sea' No place to hang a 6 ft quilt, I took it apart.
This one has a companion piece that is much smaller, (stay tuned, next week) They are both thread painted, quilted and then attached to a canvas background.
I am a fiber artist living 20 miles from the Northeast gate to Yellowstone National Park. We live just off the Chief Joesph Highway. Walk, ski or snowshoe everyday. I am a founding member of the 1st Textile Art group in Wyoming, Textile Artists of the Greater Yellowstone. One last thing, I am terrible at updating my blog. I always promise to do better but so far I fail at that. Must be because I am busy creating art??

'Poor Baby Jackson'
This is a thread painting of my cat Jackson. I adopted Jackson 10 years ago. He had been brought into the vet clinic in very bad shape. After 6-8 weeks of recovery at the vet, I brought him home. The vet thought he was probably 2-3 years old at the time I adopted him. So he is now probably about 12-13 years. I have noticed he is pretty thinned down. He is a lot more social. Always needs to be sitting on me, or at least very near me. He does not climb our 6 foot fence to hunt anymore. He tolerates our dog Ruger and loves our dog Teton.

2nd HERstory quilt "Aretha"
This is the 2nd quilt juried into the HERstory exhibit. I titled it "Aretha" because just that one name is recognizable around the world. In my research I learned so much about this beautiful soul of a lady. I am honored that my interpretation of her has been juried into this show. Below is the close-up of her

"Through the Lens"
Dorothea Lange was a photographer that took photos during the "dust bowl "era and many of those from the Japanese/ American Internment. I fell in love with her work when I curated an exhibit at The Heart Mountain Internment Center. This quilt has been juried into the HERstory quilt exhibit. The above photo is a close up. Below the entire quilt. this was a 1st for me, a quilt in gradations of Black to White. One of my all time favorites.
Stay tuned, next week the 2nd quilt that was juried into this HERstory quilt exhibit.
